Common & Latin Name: Albino Rainbow Shark (Epalzeorhynchos frenatum)
Care level: Easy
Max Size: 15cm
Approximate purchase size: 3-4cm
How easy are they to keep? Rainbow sharks are easy to keep and usually a hardy species. They will do best in a planted aquarium with bogwood, to allow areas to graze and set up territories.
How big do they grow? Fully grown adults can reach 15cm, and females are wider bodied
What is the best sized tank for these? We would recommend 50-60l minimum to house a single Rainbow Shark. A group of these would require a 200ltr+.
What is best to feed them? Offer a varied diet, of fresh or frozen bloodworm which will help show their natural colours and also a good quality flake and algae tablets. We have a great range of foods available at Delta Aquarium.
What water conditions do they require? They will do well with a ph between 6.5-7.5, or slightly acidic is best. A stable ph is the most important. Temperature ranges should be between 20-25°C
What can they be kept with? Rainbow sharks can show aggression to others of the same kind, and therefore best kept in singles in aquariums 100l or smaller. They should be housed with similar sized tank mates, such as Silver Sharks, Gourami's, Barbs etc. Please check out our compatibility chart for more details.
Where are they from? Rainbow sharks are widely spread through out Central and western Thailand.
Can they be bred in captivity? Yes, these little catfish are great fish to try if your interested in starting breeding project. The best ratio is 2 females to every male, however the more females to males ratio seems to have a better success.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT KEEPING TROPICAL FISH?

Small community to medium sized community set-ups are best to start with, unless you’re looking to create a biotope or species tank. Cycling your aquarium This is a very important part of keeping your cold water or tropical aquarium. Your filter is just a sponge and is no different than your washing-up sponge…until it’s “cycled” and loaded with beneficial bacteria. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED MY TROPICAL FISH?
Answer: In general, most tropical fish thrive on one or two feedings per day. You’ll need to adjust the quantity of food according to the size and quantity of fish in your tank.
